Hillcroft children step back in time for a day
Published: Friday, 25 October 2013 09:23

As part of their topic 'The Blitz' the year 5 and 6 children at Hillcroft Primary School, Caterham, have re-created the original photograph of the Hillcroft V.E. day celebrations in 1945. In preparation for the big event the children made their own bunting, depicting every country involved in WW2 and baked traditional honey cakes using a recipe popular at the time. On the day itself the children and staff, dressed up in 1940's style costume, started the celebrations by holding their very own 'dance hall' in which the children showed off the Lindy Hop moves they had been learning in P.E. In the afternoon, the V.E celebrations continued in the front playground, re-creating the original V.E. day photograph. The children had a thoroughly enjoyable day and were excited to write about their experiences the following morning.
