Wren Wanderers take their first step with walking workout
Published: Wednesday, 18 October 2017 08:40

An intrepid group of tenants and staff from Wren Park recently took part in a Memory Walk at Painshill Park, Surrey.

As a supported living unit, offering rehabilitation services for adults with an Acquired Brain Injury, the focus of the service at Wren Park is to empower clients to set individual goals and move towards a more independent way of life. Events such as coffee mornings, and even a festival style party in the spacious surroundings of Wren Park, where tenants baked many of the treats on offer and provided live music for everyone to enjoy, are just some examples of the way tenants and staff seek to build skills whilst socialising and having fun.

In this most recent charitable venture, tenants and staff completed a Memory Walk to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society. A catchy name was, of course, a must, and so Team 'Wren Wanderers’ was born. Emboldened by their new title, The Wren Wanderers aimed high and chose the further of the two distance options and completed 7km walk around the stunning Painshill Park.

One tenant who took part reflected, “It’s great to do something a bit different and even better knowing it was for a good cause”, and a staff member commented that the event was "a brilliant day and a fun way for staff and tenants to spend quality time together”.

Yet again, the tenants of Wren Park have demonstrated their commitment to helping others and their willingness to try something new. Another tenant commented “It was an exciting experience to share with friends and staff, seeing so many people doing the walk inspired me to do more charity work in the future”.

Whilst this was certainly more than just 'a walk in the park', Wren Wanderers are now on the lookout for their next team adventure and ready to step up to an even greater challenge.
