Tenth annual 'Bedrock' gig boosts funds for COAT
Published: Thursday, 28 April 2011 15:22

COAT members join the band on stage at the end of the fundraising dance at the Sacred Heart Church Hall.

On Friday 1st April a lively evening of dancing to the music of local band 'Bedrock' was enjoyed by 70 energetic supporters of Caterham Overseas Aid Trust (COAT).

The dance, held at the Sacred Heart Church Hall in Essendene Road, Caterham- on-the-Hill was the tenth fundraising event for COAT to feature Bedrock. The dance raised the sum of £850 making the total raised over the years by Colin Robinson and the boys of Bedrock a staggering £9,450.

Local charity COAT was formed in 1982 and works to raise funds to help people in third-world countries help themselves out of poverty and starvation.

Secretary of COAT, Phil Saville, said: "Bedrock have always been great supporters of ours. Charities have to work ever more harder these days to raise money and this is a very enjoyable way to do it. Thank you Bedrock!"

The icing on the cake at this year's event was a musical tribute right at the end by the band to COAT and its work. Phil said that he hopes the song will soon be available for supporters to purchase for themselves.

For more information about COAT's work or to join their committee please call Phil on 01883 341063.
