SMART advice for Ashley Cole from Surrey County Council
Published: Friday, 29 January 2010 05:46

Surrey County Council's Leader Dr Andrew Povey has personally invited footballer Ashley Cole to take part in a community speedwatch event. The event, which is aimed at tackling speeding, would give the Chelsea and England footballer the chance to talk directly to speeding drivers about the consequences of their actions. Mr Cole, who lives in Surrey, is due to be sentenced today (Friday 29th January) at Kingston Magistrates' Court. He was found guilty on Monday 4th January at the same court of driving at 104mph in a 50mph zone in south-west London. Dr Povey said: "Ashley Cole is an outstanding footballer in a leading football team and as such is an important role model for young people. I am inviting Ashley to come and take part in a community speedwatch, run as part of our joint Drive SMART campaign with Surrey Police. We have contacted his agent and are looking forward to hearing back from him."
