Something to crow about!

Essendene School pupils with their winning scarecrow, 'Martha'.

As part of their Plants and Growing topic, Year One pupils at Essendene Lodge School decided to enter the Scarecrow Competition held at Knights Garden Centre in Woldingham recently. The pupils spent many weeks designing and planning their scarecrow as a whole class using their ideas to come up with their entry, 'Martha'.

Martha has stood the test of time and is still in one piece, despite some torrential downpours! The children used clothes from the local charity shop as well as contributions from the parents and stuffed her with straw. She was up against a variety of scarecrows from other local schools and even pipped 'Kate Middleton' to the post! The children of Essendene Lodge are very proud that they won the competition and are already thinking about next year's entry.
