Christmas gets under way in Caterham
Published: Friday, 18 November 2011 10:30

Father Christmas arriving in Church Walk in a Caterham Car for last year's event.

Father Christmas will be switching the Christmas lights on at the Church Walk Shopping Centre in Caterham on Friday 25th November to launch the late night shopping event.

Father Christmas will be driven in on a Caterham car lead by Caterham Cubs, Scouts, Girl Guides and a lantern procession followed by singing around the Christmas tree. Shops will open until 8pm and entertainment will run from 3pm-8pm. There will be free parking in Morrisons from 3pm. This year the event will be supported by local community and charity stalls with their games of chance. There will also be free face painting and a children's shop window treasure hunt. The highlight will be the switching on of the lights at 6pm.

On Saturday 26th November Caterham-on-the-Hill Parish Council once again holds the popular Christmas festivities under the Cedar Tree. Residents are invited to see the Cedar Tree lights switched on and to join Father Christmas, the East Surrey Choral Society, St Francis School pupils and the Girl Guides in singing carols. Enjoy refreshments of mince pies, mulled wine and soft drinks. This free event will take place from 6pm to 6.30pm in Buxton's car park (under the Cedar Tree) in Church Road, Caterham-on-the-Hill. A collection will be made for Help the Heroes.
