Delighted directors and users of the East Surrey Dial-a-Ride service welcomed the latest addition to the fleet at the Douglas Brunton Centre in Caterham recently.

On Tuesday 1st November Barry Selway from Countryside Conversions Ltd. delivered the £37,000 bus that is specially adapted to carry elderly and disabled passengers. The bus was paid for by an anonymous donor, bringing the number of buses serving residents of East Surrey with mobility problems to six.

One of the charity's directors, Joyce Sage, first presented the concept of the Dial-a-Ride service to Tandridge District Council in 1980. Joyce said: "There were many people stuck in their homes who couldn't get out to the hairdressers or shops. We raised money from local organisations who helped us to get the first bus. I am so proud to see these buses around picking up people and taking them around. It just goes to show that from little acorns, mighty oaks grow!"
