Local citizens awarded for services to the community
Published: Friday, 24 February 2012 11:39

At last night's Civic Reception at Surrey National Golf Club, the Chairman of Tandridge District Council, Councillor Brian Perkins and MP Sam Gyimah presented three Citizen of the Year and two Recognition Awards.

Citizen of the Year Awards were given to:

• Gwen Hoare, Caterham

• Martin Vaux, Caterham

• Maureen Young, Dormansland

While Recognition Awards went to:

• Mark Jones, Caterham

• John Kempton, Oxted

• Irwyn Davies, Lingfield

The awards were open to anyone who had made a significant or outstanding contribution, on a purely voluntary basis, to the community. They were judged by the Chairman and Vice-Chairman, Councillor Sakina Bradbury.

Chairman of the Council, Councillor Brian Perkins, said: "We had a wide range of nominees all closely involved in their local community and it was a difficult decision to choose who to present the awards to. Thank you to everyone who sent in nominations and congratulations to those who received the awards – they are well deserved and just a small way of recognising the great work these local residents do."
