Discover our wartime past at the Kenley Heritage Day
Published: Monday, 07 May 2012 01:26

A new event comes to Kendley Airfield this year with the Kenley Airfield Friends Group (KAFG) holding a Kenley Heritage Day. This event on 23rd June will feature a Guided Heritage and Nature Walk taking in some of the airfield's WWII heritage sites.

A major attraction is expected to be close encounters with the gliders and their pilots – both RAF and the private gliding club. The local branch of the Royal Air Force Association will also be showing off its WWII memorabilia in the Portcullis Club. All this plus BBQ, Teas, Ice Cream and family sideshows.

KAFG's Chairman, Chris Baguley, has promised that special attention will be given to introducing local children to the importance of their local airfield – described by English Heritage as the best preserved World War II fighter airfield in the country - while we still have people who remember those times in the period leading up to the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain in 2015.
