The NextStep Rent Deposit Scheme was originally set up in 1998 by Reigate and Redhill YMCA to assist single people looking for accommodation on a low income in Reigate and Banstead. NextStep has recently been successful in gaining funding from Crisis, the national charity for single homeless people, and Tandridge District Council to extend the service for singles and couples without a priority need in the district of Tandridge.

The project team works closely with prospective tenants offering a guarantee bond in place of a conventional cash deposit. NextStep also offers support and advice to help with budgeting, claiming benefits and any tenancy related issues.

NextStep assists landlords to find prospective tenants that have been assessed as to their suitability to rent privately and can provide all relevant paperwork such as tenancy agreements and inventories. Landlords also have the assurance of the guarantee bond to cover a deposit.

The service is completely free to all parties and NextStep provides support to both the landlord and tenant to ensure that the tenancy runs smoothly.
