Man arrested in connection with serious sexual assault in Whyteleafe

On Sunday 19th May detectives in East Surrey arrested a 58-year-old man on suspicion of rape after a woman in her mid-20s was assaulted on Whyteleafe Recreational Ground.

The incident occurred during the early hours on Saturday, 18th May and officers continue to urge anyone who was in the area around the time it took place to contact them with information.

It is believed the victim and the offender became acquainted with each other while socialising earlier in the evening.

The man is currently in police custody and the victim continues to be supported by specialist officers while the investigation progresses.
