Get geared up for Waller Pain 2013!
Published: Friday, 24 May 2013 09:08

The Waller Pain hill-climb takes place for the fourth year on Sunday 9th June on the steep incline of Waller Lane in Caterham.

Waller Lane is a narrow road that pitches up at 20 per cent in places, and includes 210 feet of climbing over its 0.31-mile length.

Last year's event was won by John Storms who came close to the current event record set by Matt Pilkington in 2011 of one minute and 14 seconds.

In addition to hardened hill-climbers, the event is open to novice riders, men and women, with categories for under-16s. The emphasis is firmly on having some fun and the event is part of the annual Caterham summer festival, so there's always a sizeable crowd cheering on the riders.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Save The Velodrome charity that raises money for the preservation of the Herne Hill Velodrome.

This year the hill-climb coincides with a food festival in Caterham - which seems like the perfect match.

Entry costs £5, or £2.50 for those aged 16 and under.
