Tandridge Photographic Society is making a splash
Published: Friday, 22 November 2013 09:44

Tandridge Photographic Society's (TPS's) 50th year is proving to be filled with success.  Their special 50th Anniversary event, featuring the internationally-renowned photographer, Charlie Waite, was a huge success.  Around 220 people were entertained and inspired by Charlie's talk and slide show and was the largest event that TPS has ever mounted in its 50 years.

TPS then had one of its most successful Natural History competitions with a record seventy-five entries. The external judge, David Smith said he really enjoyed seeing the prints and projected images which were of a very high standard. In confirmation of this, he awarded the maximum of 10 points to four entries in both sections. David Hurkett’s entries were outstanding. He achieved three 10’s and was declared overall winner in both categories.

TPS's last session was interrupted by a surprise when TPS member Marie-Ange Bouchard arrived with bottles of champagne to celebrate her gaining an Associateship distinction (ARPS) with the Royal Photographic Society. The award was made for a stunning panel of 15 images taken on her iPhone to demonstrate that being a good photographer is not down to the equipment you use, but the person who uses it. RPS assessor Richard Walton stated that he had never seen another panel like it.

Tandridge Photographic Society meets on Thursdays in Godstone. Visitors and new members are always welcome.
