Paul completes the London Marathon
Published: Friday, 30 April 2010 11:38

Local café owner, Paul Colairo, has raised nearly £2,500 for a housing charity by running the Virgin London Marathon last Sunday.  Paul, who owns Coffee Bay in Station Avenue, ran in memory of one of his customers, Mike Callanan, who worked for the charity 'Housing Justice' and sadly passed away last year.

Paul, who was running the Marathon for the first time, completed the race in five hours, 32 minutes.  "By 16 miles my knee and my hip had given way, but I still managed to finish," said Paul.  "It was an amazing day, absolutely fantastic and the support shown to me was brilliant.  I had seen the London Marathon on the television before but when you are actually there it is something else.  Tuesday was a very moving day because Mike's family came to the cafe to see me and say thanks.

"Since Monday I have had my running shirt and medal on display in the shop and my customers have donated nearly £500, bringing the total I have raised so far to nearly £2,500.  The support from the people in Caterham has been amazing!"
