CR3 Soldiers wins 'Best Neighbourhood Initiative'
Published: Friday, 21 May 2010 11:53

A Tandridge initiative aimed at engaging with young people in order to tackle the causes of anti-social behaviour scooped top prize at a recent Surrey Police ceremony.

CR3 Soldiers was established as part of a partner agency problem-solving plan to work with young people in Caterham-on-the-Hill in order to identify the causes of anti-social behaviour and what can be done to put long-term solutions in place that would have benefit to the community as a whole.

At the Surrey-wide Neighbourhood conference two CR3 Soldiers and local Tandridge officers showcased the achievements and success of the group which resulted in them being voted best neighbourhood initiative.

Sergeant Dan Gutierrez said: "I am absolutely thrilled the hard work and dedication put in by everyone involved with CR3 Soldiers has been acknowledged and rewarded. We were joined at the conference by 'soldiers' Sophie Aldous, 19 and Liam Gillam, 16, who spoke passionately about the project and the benefits it has brought to Caterham-on-the-Hill. CR3 Soldiers is proof that by working together we can tackle issues which have a detrimental affect on the community."

Neighbourhood initiatives from across the Force were judged by Assistant Chief Constable Jerry Kirkby and Chief Superintendent Gavin Stephens with £500 being awarded to the CR3 Soldiers project.

In June ACC Kirkby will be attending the club to present the prize. The Neighbourhood conference was held in Dorking on Monday, 26th April.
