On Tuesday 15th April, Claire Bulford from Caterham safely delivered healthy identical twins Emma Jennifer, who weighed 4lb 15oz and Alice Julia, who weighed 4lb 5oz. Claire herself has an identical twin sister, Jenny but contrary to popular belief, identical twins are not hereditary like non-identical twins are. Every woman has a one in 250 chance of conceiving identical twins so when Claire’s twin pregnancy was confirmed at her scan the radiographer told her she should buy a lottery ticket! Claire now lives with her partner Mark Szwajcar in his home town of Dunfermline in Scotland. Claire, her sister Jenny and her two older brothers Andrew and John all went to St. John’s Primary School in Caterham then Oxted School. Claire said: “I’m thrilled with my two beautiful daughters and it has been a massive help being able to learn from Mum’s experience of having twins.”
