War-time nostalgia commemorates D-Day anniversary
Published: Friday, 27 June 2014 19:46

Some WWII themed activities were organised in Caterham to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the DDay landings.

On Friday 6th June The Blacksmiths Arms in the High Street, Caterham-on-the-Hill held a 1940s fancy dress charity night for Help for Heroes, with live swing-jive music from local band ‘Vintage’.

Landlady Sue Grant was delighted that the evening raised £1,005 for the charity, thanks to her generous customers and the raffle prize sponsors.

On Thursday 5th June, staff at Caterham Dene Hospital organised a WWII tea party for its elderly patients, with a sing-song to wartime songs and a fascinating display of WWII artefacts for the patients to reminisce over.
