Sam Gyimah MP welcomes £30 million for schools in Surrey
Published: Wednesday, 30 July 2014 16:47

Sam Gyimah MP has welcomed the announcement of an extra £28.3 million for Surrey schools in 2015/16, as part of an additional £390m being invested by the Government to make funding for schools fairer.

The new funding represents an increase in the total allocated per pupil in Surrey from £4,096 in 2014/15 to £4,308 in 2015/16, a rise of £212. The announcement follows a Government consultation on fairer schools funding, and means that for the first time in a decade, funding will be allocated to local schools on the basis of the actual characteristics of their pupils and schools rather than historic levels of spending.

Mr Gyimah, who has recently been appointed an Education Minister, said:

“This announcement is a major step forward in providing a fairer balance of funding for schools in local areas across the country. I am delighted that schools in Surrey will benefit from nearly £30m extra support, helping to ensure that our young people receive the best education possible.”
