CHECK donates ultrasound machine to Kimilili District Hospital
Published: Wednesday, 30 July 2014 16:53

The Caterham-based charity CHECK (Community Health and Education for the Children of Kimilili) has used £8,000 raised by local volunteers to buy an ultrasound machine that is now saving lives of babies and mothers in Kimilili, Kenya.

After receiving the new machine, Dr David at Kimilili District Hospital said: “The ultra sound is already saving lives and easing delivery times. Thank you very much to all at CHECK. Your support for us is very special.”

CHECK supports education and health for children from the very poor and underprivileged community of Kimilili in Kenya. Support for the Kimilili children and the maternity ward has been high on CHECK’s priority and they are delighted to be able to purchase the ultra sound.

Bob Milton, a trustee of CHECK said: “I am amazed at the hard work of our volunteers and the generosity of the wonderful people of Caterham. Try to imagine a UK maternity unit without an ultrasound machine and you will begin to understand how important this simple machine is in making childbirth so much safer for babies and mothers in Kimilili.”

CHECK is fully registered by the Charity Commission and fund-raises throughout the year by organising events such as quizzes and concerts, attending all the local summer fetes and arranging for direct educational sponsorship of orphaned and needy children in Kimilili.

CHECK have just launched their new CHECK-MATE scheme where for a fee of £19.99 a year they will keep you informed of all their fund-raising events and future plans to support the schools and hospital of Kimilili. It is hoped the CHECK-MATE scheme will raise at least £2,000 to go towards purchasing a Resuscitaire machine to give newborn life support to babies at Kimilili Hospital.
