Council Chairman opens new free gym in Queen’s Park
Published: Wednesday, 30 July 2014 19:38

Tuesday 15th July saw the official opening of the new outdoor gym in Queen’s Park, Caterham-on-the-Hill by the Chairman of Tandridge District Council, Councillor Liz Parker, accompanied by her consort and husband Robin.

Six pieces of gym equipment have been installed in Queen’s Park designed to be used by people of all ages, shapes and sizes, regardless of fitness levels. The open air gym is free and accessible to all adults and each piece of equipment is clearly labelled with instructions about how to use it safely.

During her speech, Cllr. Parker said: “The outdoor gym is a collaborative effort between Tandridge District Council and Tandridge Trust, funded by the Surrey County Council Prevention, Personalisation and Partnership Fund, and I am delighted to see representatives from all these parties here today. I really look forward to seeing more of these excellent free outdoor gyms being installed.”

When the opening formalities were over, Chris Cole, Sports Centre Manager and Fitness Instructor for Tandridge Trust, demonstrated the different items of equipment.

The gym is next to the children’s playground, which should enable adults to exercise safely, while keeping an eye on their children or grandchildren at the same time.

Fitness instructors from Tandridge Trust have set up a programme of inductions and classes for anyone who would like to know how to use the equipment, or who need help to get started - see full details in the advertisement below.
