St. Catherine's Santa Run
Published: Tuesday, 05 January 2010 05:49

Two scout ‘Santas' rest by the drinking fountain after the run

Local people enjoyed some festive fun by taking part in a Santa Run in Caterham last month.

Nearly 100 men, women and children dressed up in Santa suits before completing up to three laps around Queens Park on Sunday 13th December to raise funds for St Catherine's Hospice. At the end of the run, all of the participants were given a well-deserved medal and treated to drinks and mince pies.

It is hoped that the event will raise around £3,000 for the local charity which provides specialised end of life care for patients and their families, friends and carers in Crawley, Horsham, Mid Sussex and East Surrey.

St Catherine's Community Fundraiser, Victoria Lawrence, said: "Following our expansion of services in the Tandridge area, we've introduced this event in Caterham for the first time and we've been delighted by the response. We'd like to say a massive thank you to everyone who braved the cold weather to take part, or who came along to cheer on the participants. The event was great fun and the support we've received is much appreciated by everyone at St Catherine's.

"We'd also like to thank all of the event marshals and other volunteers, Tandridge District Council, Surrey County Council, St John Ambulance, and everyone else who helped us to run this event."
