Contractor chosen to build new whyteleafe play area
Published: Friday, 17 September 2010 10:10

The original plan for the playground which will be amended to take residents' views into account

Last night's Community Services Committee agreed to appoint SMP Playgrounds to design and build a new play area at Whyteleafe recreation ground, Hillbury Road, Whyteleafe.

The decision follows a consultation day held in July, at which local residents voted for their preferred design from a choice of four. SMP Playgrounds' design won the most votes on the day and online.

The design will now be amended to reflect the comments and suggestions made by residents about the equipment.

Tandridge District Council is rebuilding the existing children's play area at a cost of £100,000. The existing site was installed in 1984 and is in need of refurbishment.

Councillor Tony Elias, Chairman of the Community Services Committee, said: "We are very pleased with the outcome of the consultation. We received lots of constructive comments about the designs and they will help create a play area which reflects what the community wants."
