Hospice calls for enterprising pupils
Published: Friday, 08 October 2010 09:42

St Catherine’s calls for Enterprising Students! From L- R, back row, Oriel High School Headmaster Philip Stack; Victoria Lawrence of St Catherine’s Hospice and RBS’s Daryl Gayler. Front row, Oriel High School students Mohamad Youssef; Jessica Dawson and Yahia Abu-Hijleh.

Schools throughout Mid Sussex and East Surrey are being invited to enter a team of up to six students from years 9 to 12 in the forthcoming Enterprise Challenge - an interschool competition organised by St Catherine's Hospice and sponsored this year by RBS Corporate Banking. The Challenge is aimed at developing students' business and teamwork skills whilst teaching them about hospice care and charitable giving as they compete to raise a target of £1,000 per team for the hospice between January and March 2011.

Oriel High School in Crawley won the competition last year, raising an incredible £2,000. Headteacher, Mr Stack, says "We are incredibly proud of our students' success in the last Challenge, not only because of the funds they raised for their local hospice but also how taking part improved their confidence, organisational skills and business awareness. Our students are already excited about the next event and I wholeheartedly recommend this to other secondary schools."

As part of its sponsorship, Royal Bank of Scotland will be mentoring participating teams. Daryl Gayler, Regional Director of Corporate Banking, says "This is a fantastic opportunity for young people to develop their business talents and team working skills while making a genuine difference in their local community. We are proud to be involved in the St Catherine's Hospice Enterprise Challenge and looking forward to guiding young entrepreneurs during what will be an invaluable educational experience."

There is space for ten teams in this award winning, popular event and the deadline for entries is Friday 19th November. For further information or to enter your team, contact Victoria Lawrence at the hospice on 01293 447376.
