Peter Drysdale, Godstone resident and long standing member of Caterham, Oxted and Godstone Lions Club (COGS) has been given what in the world of Lions is the highest of accolades. On the night of the Club’s 32nd Charter Anniversary Dinner, Lion Dr Jens Schulz, who had flown in from Germany especially for the occasion, presented Peter with a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. The word 'Progressive' indicates that Peter already holds such an award which Lions International gives to outstanding individuals in recognition of the exceptional work that is done by the recipient. It shows that the person getting the award has done all that is consistent with the nature and purpose of Lionism. This additional award was given to Peter at the combined suggestion of German District 111MN and UK’s District 105SE and was given as a mark of the years of hard work and dedication he put in to first the twinning of the two Districts and secondly for his years as an International Relations Officer.

A record number of Lions and partners attended this year's dinner. The guests were piped into the dining room by Gatwick Caledonian Pipe Band's youngest and only female piper,13 year-old Sally Morritt who welcomed guests with Amazing Grace and Highland Cathedral.
