The great Christmas switch-on!
Published: Friday, 03 December 2010 10:48

The Cedar Tree in Caterham-on-the-Hill, now covered in snow, makes a wonderful Christmas scene.

Christmas lights across the district are being switched on amidst an array of processions, carol singing and visits by Santa. Last Saturday, 27th November, Caterham-on-the-Hill Parish Council held festivities under the Cedar Tree where a large crowd sang carols and enjoyed mulled wine and minced pies after the tree lights were switched on by Father Christmas. Buxton Homes kindly gave permission for the use of their car park for the event and are also supplying the power for the refurbished and extended lights.

In Caterham Valley, Santa arrived in a Caterham 7, much to the delight of onlookers who had come to see him switch on the Christmas Tree lights in Church Walk. He was greeted by Mother Christmas and Caterham's Town Crier, Sonia Hunt. About 600 people attended the switch-on, who joined in with carol singing before Santa switched on the lights.
