'Starry Night' at Caterham School
Published: Friday, 04 February 2011 10:38

Caterham Preparatory School held its first ever Art Exhibition last month at the Christine Walker Gallery situated in Caterham School.

Works by children in Years 3 to 6 were beautifully displayed in the gallery over a period of two weeks, when parents and visitors were able to go along and admire the exhibits. Both art and craft work were on display.

Year 3 children (7-8 year olds) had produced self-portraits in carefully made frames, while Year 4's robot collages were made up of anything from ping pong balls to lollysticks. Still-life watercolours were the order of the day from Year 5 (9-10 year olds), together with some beautifully crafted Tudor houses. Year 6, however, studied and reproduced their own versions of Van Gogh's 'Starry Night' using canvas and oils.

Together with a variety of hand-made musical instruments, the exhibition was a fascinating insight into the art world of the children.
