Whyteleafe FC
Published: Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:53

Winter can be a dark depressing time and so it has proved to be for Whyteleafe FC and its fans. With no league wins in the last month, the only high point was a draw against Merstham and the club now finds itself second from bottom with only disgraced Croydon Athletic, who have just announced their resignation from the league, below us.

The previous month's four league match losing streak was extended to five when Walton Casuals visited Church Road and ran out 3-0 winners. It was in truth a very poor performance which was compounded by the sending off of frustrated captain Fleming near the end.

Fabian Batchelor in action v. Worthing. However the losing streak was ended in the next game when Leafe survived the early sending off of striker Fabian Batchelor and managed to force a 1-1 draw with local rivals Merstham. The goal scored by Kwabena Agyei unfortunately proved to be his parting gift to the Leafe, as he signed for Walton Casuals the following week. The good performance at Merstham brought some optimism back to the ranks but unfortunately the losing habit returned with another four straight losses, 1- 0 to Eastbourne Town, 2-1 to Godalming Town, 2-0 to Worthing and 3-0 to Whitehawk.

The last two games of this run, though, did see some much improved performances and it's hoped that this can spur the team on to get some results on the board. The demise of Croydon Athletic who were due to come to Church Road on the 5th means that February sees only one Leafe home game which is on the 25th against Corinthian Casuals. Extra support can provide the perfect boost to help the team out of the situation they are in, so why not make a note to come down and support your local team?
