Published: Friday, 12 March 2010 11:18

Warlingham School withstood a late bombardment from Beacon to win the East Surrey final of the FDS Carnegie Cup 2-1. Warlingham qualify for the National finals in Leeds at the end of March. It was tough on Beacon who had been the outstanding team in the league stages of the competition, but came up against a team fast out of the blocks in the final.

The five-a-side 6th Form tournament, run by Brazilian Soccer Schools – Tandridge, was contested by six East Surrey school teams at Warlingham on Wednesday, 3rd March. The game was new to most of the players.  Using a small weighted Futebol de Salao ball, the fast paced game made for a great spectacle with skill at a premium.

Chris Polyviou, sports teacher at Warlingham was delighted with the performance, saying: "I was surprised how quickly the boys picked up the game, they really enjoyed it and gave a great performance. The whole event was a big success."
